Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome! Here we will attempt to answer any questions you may have!

So, what's this all about then?

30 Day Challenges is centered around the challenges that people set themselves daily. All the time, everywhere you look people, objects or companies are challenging you to do something.

We have challenge notes for you to keep track of your progress, you can attempt challenges other people have added to the site, amongst other things. You can also connect with other users as well as sharing your challenges on your favourite social networks.

Why not head on over to our Getting Started page to find out more about what you can do, as well as links and images.

What is a Challenge?

A challenge is (as defined by wikipedia) "A challenge is a general term referring to things that are imbued with a sense of difficulty and victory." (?)

Well, it's all well and good us quoting wiki's, but that's only half of what we feel a challenge is. A challenge is a way for you to achieve something, but also, via this site, make it fun as well! You can share a challenge, get encouragement from friends, or even just keep notes yourself.

^

Why should I attempt a Challenge?

Why should you do anything? We think you'd enjoy a good challenge, everyone does. It often brings out the competitive side of people.

We're re-iterating ourselves a lot, but you can start a challenge or attempt a challenge simply for the fun of it. You can share it with friends, people can add notes on it, and more.

^

What's this? Personal Challenges?

Yessir, Personal Challenges are challenges that you can attempt yourself, but no-one else can attempt. However, others can add notes on your personal challenge.

This differs from a "Private" challenge because people can not add notes on "Private" Challenges, you cannot share them as only you can see them.

^

Right, so what are the other challenges?

Well we have "Personal" Challenges, and "Private" Challenges, and the other one is the "Public" Challenge. This means a challenge that anyone can add notes on and attempt.

What if I fail? Longer than 30 Days?

Failure isn't an option! We don't see it as failing, you can overrun, you wont get penalized, what matters is that you are trying!

Whether it takes you 30 days or 30 months to quit smoking (an example), at the end of it all, you've still achieved something, and we're all proud of you!

^

I don't want people seeing my Challenge..

That's cool, we understand that certain stuff is sensitive, you may not want others to see it. That's why we made "Private" Challenges.

It's simple, too. When adding your challenge, select the "Personal" Option, and when we ask if you're okay with other people seeing it, simply choose "Nah, this is sensitive stuff"..

^

Asks? What are those? How do I send a message?!

Well, we're a site focussed on challenges, so we figured that sometimes, some users may want to "Ask" other users (in private) how they did on a challenge. Below each challenge is a list of the people who "Attempted" that challenge, as well as the link to Ask them how they did! Simple or what? :)

Of course, as with any system, it doesn't have to be used for specifically that. You're free to message anyone on the site by going to their profile, and clicking "Message User". Please don't use this system to spam or break our rules, we can and will check.

About Account Verification

At 30 Day Challenges we want to make your social experience as real and easy as possible, so in the beginning we didn't require any sort of account verification, anyone with an email address could sign up. Unfortunately some organizations saw 30 Day Challenges as a place to advertise their products. We found that most of the email addresses they used to sign up were non-existant. So to eliminate the bad spammers we've had to implement account verification. Account verification is not necessarily a bad thing, as it lets you know that your fellow members are real, and not bots, allowing for closer interaction and enrichment of your overall social experience :)

You don't seem to be taking this very seriously..

We believe that nothing should be too serious. Life is too short, and being a challenges site, we want to be as light hearted, friendly and fun as we can, that's the ethos of this site.

People think of Challenges and liken them to an army drill instructor barking out commands to you, DO THIS, FIX THAT. We don't want to be thought of like that, we're more like your dog, looking at you with those big puppy eyes, asking for his dinner, or your cat, mewling to go outside. They get you to do things, but they don't annoy you: That's us.

Who are you then?

I'm Mikey! I'm 22 years old, a web developer from the United Kingdom. I coded this site in 30 days (though I am constantly refining certain features). That was the first ever "Personal" Challenge on 30 Day Challenges, and you can view it here.

I enoy reading, coding, and innovating. I own and run kwn.me - an awesome coded-from-scratch URL Shortener, I own and love several web forums, and love conversing with users, 30 Day Challenges was the next logical progression in my web life.

I'm a slave to twitter, and infrequently update my blog. I'm always on IRC, love chatting.. and find myself setting myself challenges more and more.
